Mission: Achievement for Every Student  

Butte County Joint School District 111 – All of Butte County and part of Custer County. 89% of the land in Butte County is owned/managed by the Federal Government.

Enrollment: Declining enrollment. About 450 students 2005/06 school year to 450 students in the 2008/09 schoolyear, with same No Child Left Behind requirements, but less money, fewer teachers, etc.

Special Populations: 79 Students qualify for Special Education and the State only allots for and supports 24.6. The district must pick up the costs of Individual Education Plan support for the remaining 44.4. This includes services from Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapists in addition to classroom support and materials.

Economic: Over 50% Free and Reduced Lunch Count – High Poverty School District

Facilities: Butte High School (9 through 12 Grades), Butte Middle School (6 – 8 Grades), Arco Elementary (PreSchool through 5 Grades), and Howe Elementary School K – 5Grades) located 28 miles north of Arco – Some students travel 160 miles round trip daily on mostly gravel roads to attend school because of rural locations.

Academic Performance – The measure used to quantify academic performance is Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). For the 2005/06 school year the Butte County Joint School District made AYP. Our 7 th graders scored in the 85% on the Direct Writing Test this year. We offer AP Government, AP Literature, AP Language, College Credit Calculus, University of Idaho Math classes by Distance Learning.

Activities:  

We offer extra curricular activities at Butte Middle School including boys’ and girls’ basketball, football, wrestling, volleyball, and track. Butte High School offers boys’ and girls’ basketball, football, wrestling, volleyball, cross country, Academic Decathelon, Scholastics, drama, pep band, and track

Community: Butte is a rural community with many residents working in agriculture related occupations. 168 students have a parent working at one of the INL sites.

Financial: A plant facilities and supplemental levy passed in May of 2005. These cannot be increased until May of 2007. The Butte County Joint School District School Bond was refinanced in the summer of 2005 for a savings to property tax payers.
