Testing Information

Butte County School District #111 participates in all state wide testing. State testing includes: Idaho Standards Achievement Test, the Idaho Reading Indicator, the Direct Writing Assessment, and the Direct Math Assessment. Our students also participate in ACT testing, SAT testing, COMPASS testing, and ASVAB testing. The district also participates in NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) which allows us to compare Idaho student achievement to that of other states. Please click on the links below to find more information about the state test, and/or results for the district.

Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT)
The ISAT tests are given in April.  The testing windows are listed on the school calendar. Currently ISAT tests cover Math, Reading and Language Usage and Science.  ISAT testing occurs in grades 3-8 and 10. Students in grade 10 must meet a specific  score in order to graduate.

Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI)
The IRI is given three times during the year, September, January, and May. Testing windows are listed on the school calendar. The IRI assesses students abilities in fluency, decoding, syllables, rhyming, and spelling. IRI testing occurs in grades K-3 only. A score of 3 shows a student is at or above grade level, a score of 2 shows a student is almost at grade level, and a score of 1 shows a student is below grade level.

Direct Writing Assessment (DWA)
The DWA is given once a year in December. It assesses a child's ability to write clearly and concisely with correct grammar and mechanics. The scores for this assessment are based on a rubric and are scored by teachers from across the state. A score of 3 or 4 indicates proficiency. The DWA is given in grades 5, 7 and 9.

Direct Math Assessment (DMA)
The DMA is also given once a year in December. It assesses a child's ability to not only find the correct answer to a math problem, but to then be able to explain the process they used to find their answers. The scores for this assessment are also based on a rubric and are scored by teachers from around the state. A score of 3 or 4 indicates proficiency. The DMA is given in grades 4, 6 and 8.
